About Us

It all started in September 1990 when visionary and entrepreneur Brad Bing launched his one man cricket coaching clinics. Today as Sporting Chance enters its 21st year in 2011 the Company has grown to become one of the leading sports coaching and outreach companies in South Africa.

Sporting Chance has been dedicated to coaching and promoting sport for the past twenty years. The prime objective throughout that time has been to provide opportunities for sporting achievement for as many children as possible irrespective of race, gender or social class by offering professional coaching at schools and sports clubs. As it is during the formative years that the foundation for sports playing ability is laid, Sporting Chance has advocated and implemented various programmes for coaching school-age children.

It’s Sporting Chance’s philosophy to get children off the streets, away from their computer games and TV’s and instills a love for sport. With firm, structured coaching that strike’s a balance between sports, academics, and “play”, Sporting Chance has developed some of South Africa’s most promising sportspeople.

Sporting Chance’s current activities include a coaching schedule that runs throughout the year. During the school holidays cricket, rugby, hockey and soccer clinics are run daily at various venues. These are aimed at children between the ages of 4 - 14 years old. Approximately 4 000 children attend these clinics annually.

During the school term Sporting Chance places sports coaches in the schools for which ever sport code is required. Approximately 30 schools are involved and an estimated 1 000 children per week pass through this program every term. Another popular activity is the Sporting Chance birthday parties which channel a child’s endless energy and give mom’s a welcome break.

In association with the regular coaching programmes, Sporting Chance co-ordinates and organizes some of the country’s most exciting and promising sports projects.

The Calypso Cricket Beach Festivals are one of South Africa’s largest sports development projects. With the 15th event being held during November/ December 2005 there are plans to expand the festivals to include over 10 000 of South Africa’s future sporting stars. The ultimate aim is to select a Calypso team to travel to the Caribbean and be part of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

Scientific tests are conducted, focusing on the importance of physical activity in South African children, in order to benchmark our sporting ability and health compared to other countries.

The Street Cricket Project launched in October 2004, has encouraged kids to create a community of sport in their local environment.

In addition, Sporting Chance conducts outreach programmes which include sourcing sponsorship, equipment and providing management assistance to a number of local Cape Town community sports clubs. The Ocean View Cricket Challenge, the Inter-Media cricket challenge and several day/night hockey festivals allow Sporting Chance to share it passion for sport.
