Kia Street STREET SOCCER

KIA MOTORS, DRIVING SOCCER ON THE STREETS OF SOUTH AFRICA

Sporting Chance is proud to announce the launch of their newest project – The Kia Street STREET SOCCER League

Sporting Chance with the support of 2010 FIFA World Cup™ partner KIA Motors as the title sponsor, will be involved in the Street Soccer project that will make a difference to thousands of South African children's lives as they begin to "live the dream of 2010"! Through the Kia Charity and Care program thousands of disadvantaged children around South Africa will be given the opportunity to participate in the Kia Street Soccer league as well as accompanying health and education programmes. Marketing Manager Vinola Pillay says, "Together with Sporting Chance we hope to achieve several things, firstly, we want to emphasise to children the value of sport and physical activity in building a bright future. Furthermore, we want to use sport and the FIFA World Cup™ as a vehicle for building self-esteem and educating children about the importance of health and nutrition.

More importantly through these programmes we also want to provide opportunities for sporting achievement and personal development for as many children as possible".

More importantly through these programmes we also want to provide opportunities for sporting achievement and personal development for as many children as possible.

The Kia Street Soccer League will be launched in April 2010 involving over 3000 children in four regions across South Africa. The project aims to use the power of soccer in extremely humble environments to target children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Through Street Soccer, children will be given an opportunity to participate in Street Soccer leagues which will be accompanied by a health education program in the build up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The health program which will encompass the 'Health of the Nation' sessions, will focus on three core areas which have been identified by Government:

  • Importance of being physically active: how to lead an active lifestyle to prevent obesity.
  • Nutrition: what to eat and how to eat healthily, drink plenty of clean and safe water.
  • Personal hygiene: washing hands, brushing teeth, keeping your body clean and covering our mouth when you sneeze or cough.

Street Soccer will involve children under the age of 13 in four urban areas: Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria. Participants will have the chance to get active, develop self-esteem and get armed with the knowledge to stay healthy for the rest of their lives.

In addition to these opportunities, KIA Motors has partnered with Sporting Chance and 4 000 tickets will be awarded amongst the children that participate in both the Street Soccer project and 'Health of the Nation' sessions, to attend one of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ matches as part of the FIFA Ticket Fund Program.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Ticket Fund Program aims to issue tickets as a reward for thousands of South Africans, particularly the country's youth, who are involved in existing programs aimed at encouraging participation in soccer and community-oriented initiatives and will act as a catalyst for the establishment of sustainable social and human development programs using the game of soccer.

This new project will use the excitement generated by the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ to further strengthen Sporting Chance's mission "To provide the children of South Africa with a Sporting Chance".
