Khulani Beach Soccer Is Based on the very successful “Calypso Cricket” concept run over the last nineteen years by Sporting Chance. Khulani was introduced by Brad Bing, MD of Sporting Chance to South Africa in 2005. Khulani Beach Soccer is a unique and fun adaptation of conventional soccer.”Khulani” from the Xhosa word meaning “to grow and prosper” is played on the beach, utilising most of the rules of soccer, with two teams of eight players each aside. This competitive sport originated on the beaches of Brazil and is played between different villages who gather in there thousands for the event. Although not strictly conventional, it nevertheless is an exciting way of bringing communities together and introducing young children to the game of soccer. Initially Khulani Beach Soccer was held in the Western Cape on Sunrise Beach near Muizenberg with the idea of creating an uplifting environment where children could enjoy the game of soccer and bring together the various communities. Since.The enthusiasm generated by those involved has become a highlight for many of the young participants and though we continue to stress the fun aspect of the festival, the event has become the perfect vehicle through which to identify natural talent and flair. In 2005 Khulani Beach Soccer festival involved 250 children from the Western Cape region. It has been recognised by the SAFA: WP as being one of the most exciting soccer development projects in South Africa.
