Sunday was a blast, as the Sporting Chance team hosted the 17th annual Inter Media Cricket Challenge supported by Most of Cape Town’s media and broadcasting giants descended on the XtraSpace Belville Cricket Club early on Sunday Morning, to battle it out for the much-coveted title of 2014 Inter Media Cricket Challenge Champions.

The “eTV Eternals”, five time champions, played themselves into the familiar position as they set up a final with the much anticipated “Good Hope FM Smashaz”. The nail biting final provided the exact tonic for the day, as the eTV Eternals narrowly got home stealing the match from under the nose of Good Hope FM Smashaz as they hit the winning run off the last ball of the match.

The Inter Media Cricket initiative received immense support from media houses, based and operating in Cape Town, as well as online store The “94.5 Boundary Hunters” and “KFM Sons of Pitches” made a welcome return after being absent for the past 3 years. The “Expresso Rebels” and the “Top Billing Tough Team” were in attendance and were as competitive as ever this year. The “Radio Helderberg Heroes” were in top form, with Ricardo Benjamin taking to the microphone and presenting the line-up for the day in true radio personality style.

The “Good Hope FM Smashaz” and the “Good Hope FM Masters” made it a family affair, with their resident DJ Tammy B taking to the microphone to commentate on the days proceedings. “The Independent Deadly Deadlines” were prominent and embraced being the only representatives of the print media world. Okuhle Media had a ball and even committed to donating an amount to the Sporting Chance Development Foundation.

Much excitement was added to the day by the presence of the very talented massage specialists from Ginkgo Spa, who instantly became a hit after setting up their Ginkgo on the Go mobile spa for all the participants, spectators & family members to enjoy. SAB Miller kept the beers flowing as they supplied complementary alcoholic beverages and Red Bull supplied the much-needed energy drinks. All in all, everyone’s spirit & energy was alive!

The “Loot-o-meter”, powered by with an additional donation from GoIndustry DoveBid, ensured that money was raised during the course of the day, bringing to life the ‘Rands for Runs’ concept. Just over R21 000 was raised through the runs, boundaries and wickets on the day, which will be allocated to the Sporting Chance Development Foundation Talent ID Bursary Scheme.
