“If there is anything that a man can do well, I say let him do it. Give him a chance.” – Abraham Lincoln
The Sporting Chance Development Foundation (SCDF) has achieved its long standing dream of launching a Talent Identification programme. The key objectives of this programme are:
- to identify and nurture naturally talented young sportsmen and women, and
- to create a global structured system that works to develop athletes while supported and monitored by a qualified team.
The Sporting Chance Talent Identification Bursary programme was launched in 2013. Recipients are both young men and women from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who are given the opportunity to reach their full potential and make their dreams of sporting success come true. The Sporting Chance Talent Identification Bursary Programme is built on a solid foundation of education, optimal sports coaching and professional mentoring.
Thank you to our current supporters and donors who have enabled us to award Sporting Chance Talent Identification bursaries to six talented cricketers. These future stars were identified through the Calypso Cricket and Street Cricket initiatives. Five of the bursary recipients attend the Western Cape Sports School and one recipient is a learner at Wynberg Boys High School. We are pleased to announce that four of the bursary recipients have been selected for their respective provincial age group teams.
The Sporting Chance Talent Identification Bursary Programme aims to change the lives of talented young athletes. Through our support and mentorship these young athletes are provided with the opportunity to succeed both on and off the sports field. The bursary funds each recipient’s education, stationery, textbooks, sports uniforms, sports equipment, transport and mentorship.
