21ST ANNUAL INTER MEDIA CRICKET CHALLENGE WITH RANDS4RUNS

The annual Inter Media Cricket Challenge has come of age and Sunday’s spectacle was another fantastic event. With the drought causing last year’s event not to be played the teams were eager to get out onto the field and enjoy a day of friendly cricket competition.

There was action on and off the field with braais, beers and banter providing the perfect accompaniment to the big shots and wickets. Hosted at Bellville CC, the matches were competitive in both pools and played in an awesome spirit. Competing teams included the Magic 828 Maestro’s, The OMG’s from Okhule Media, YOH! Radio, the Independent Deadly Deadlines, One fm, Mediamark, Exresso Tornadoes, Bok Radio Legends, the Highbury Highlanders and the Open Micers.

After the pool matches it was debutants Mediamark and the Open Micers comedian team that emerged top of their respective pools and went on to contest the final. Mediamark batted first and posted one of the biggest totals in Inter Media Cricket history. The Open Micers tried to chase down the massive total, but fell short handing Mediamark the coveted trophy in their first appearance.

One of the big objectives of the day is to raise money for the Sporting Chance Foundation through the Rands4runs campaign where 4s, 6s & wickets determine monetary donations. This is made possible with the support of Peninsula Beverages, the RE/MAX Foundation, PSG, Instasure and the Nussbaum Foundation who pledged funds towards the initiative. The “bat-o-meter”continued to climb and at the end of a very successful days play, an incredible R302 000 was raised for the Sporting Chance Foundation to place Physical Education coaches into under resourced schools.

Much excitement was added to the day by the presence of the very talented massage specialists led by Tracy Williams, as well as much needed cool drink refreshments from Peninsula Beverages and Red Bull. Prize donations from Spur and Deetlefs wine amongst others ensured that we could reward the finalists and the top performers on the day.

Thanks to all the media teams who showed up in force and really made the day something special and to all the supporters of this year’s Inter Media Cricket Challenge… Till next year!
