VICTORY FOR THE DHL STORMERS, VICTORY FOR OCEAN VIEW

The Ocean View community were on hand to celebrate Juan de Jongh’s 50th Super Rugby cap and an encouraging victory for the DHL Stormers on Saturday when they were part of the 40 000 Faithful gathered at the DHL Newlands Rugby Stadium as the Stormers beat the Sharks 22-15.

There were sleepless nights before the momentous day dawned as kids and caretakers alike looked forward to the experience.  Numerous calls to the office throughout the week to confirm pick-up points and times, as well as what to wear, bore testament to this, as the excitement threatened to wreak havoc with their sanity.

It was an eye-opener for them.  The eager early birds that they were, they were timely in getting to the stadium, way before it had filled up.  They seemed to turn away for an instant and suddenly the stands were full, much to their surprise!  The closest they had been to an atmosphere like that was…well never, as, by their own admission, their school events couldn’t compare to what they saw on Saturday.

Days following the experience, it is still a topic of conversation with the learners.  With the winter weather fast creeping in, a few of them have been seen in the DHL Stormers gear provided on Saturday (a warm scarf on a cold day, anyone?), a sure sign that the DHL Stormers are making a difference.

Thanks to DHL and the DHL Stormers for this fantastic opportunity!
