Sporting Chance hosted a fun sports day for the Grade 11’s of Abbotts College Claremont today at WPCC. Tasked to create an atmosphere of enjoyment and physical activities, the Sporting Chance team devised a programme that would get everyone excited and involved.
The students arrived tentatively this morning not quite knowing what they were in for until the Sporting Chance team introduced the days programme. The specially-formulated programme included ten activity stations that tested the students both physically and mentally with a balance of fun and skills application.
The grade was divided into their classes and then the 5 classes were each divided into 2 teams creating team spirit and camaraderie right from the start. The competiveness came through in the various activities as teams worked hard to score as many points as possible.
The day started with a pass the egg ‘ice breaking’ activity where each team got their team spirit off to a winning start. It was then off to the various stations mapped out on the field.
The basketball shooting contest, putt putt, tennis rallying, ‘hit the wicket’ cricket and ‘longest hit’ hockey used the basics of the various sports codes to create fun and innovative competitions. The two fitness stations of an obstacle course and sit ups, push ups and shuttle run zone put the students’ cardiovascular levels to the test. The ‘hole in the bucket’ water trough activity allowed them a much needed time to cool off. The ever popular blind man’s soccer provided loads of laughs and ensured that the students put thorough communication at the top of their agenda while the ‘quiz the whizz’ had them put in some mental effort.
Overall the day was very well received by all involved and it was fantastic to have all the students actively participating. Thanks to Abbotts College for making it a wonderful day out.
