CAPE DOCTOR NO MATCH FOR CALYPSO CRICKET FUN

Partly cloudy skies and a strong south-easter greeted more than 500 hundred children who gathered at Strand’s Main Beach for some Calypso delight.  The children, from Lwandle, Nomzamo, Mfuleni and Macassar were not troubled by the wind and took on the challenge presented by the elements and a swinging ball.  Exciting shots and magnificent catches against the waves therefore greeted visitors who made their way on to the charming beach, and the hours disappeared quicker with each gust of wind.

The day culminated in the vibe session – an entertaining warm-down session that has become popular over the years – before going home in high spirits having formed ties with pals from different communities.

The young ones were not left to go home on empty stomachs, with Pick n Pay Western Cape providing a take-home goodie bag to go with the breakfast and lunch meals they supplied.  Thanks to the Pick n Pay Western Cape staff, the Rotarians of Strand as well as the respective coaches for helping to put these together.

What a day well spent for the youngsters, and what a way to promote a united sporting country!

Thanks to Taquanta Investment Holdings, Virgin Active SA, Pick n Pay Western Cape, Supersport Let’s Play, the Maurits van Nierop Foundation, Groupon South Africa and the Rotary Club of Strand for supporting this initiative.
