Twenty-five children were treated to a typical rugby Saturday in Cape Town when Western Province Rugby and 567 Cape Talk hosted them at Newlands Rugby Stadium when Western Province played GWK Griquas. The twenty-five, from Langa’s Busy Bee Rugby Club, were taken from Langa Stadium in the official “I am a Stormer” team bus to the stadium, treated to lunch, kitted-out in supporters’ gear and were then ready for the stadium experience.
The pre-teens and teenagers, up-and-coming rugby players in their own right, mingled well with the Newlands crowd, striking up easy friendships with fellow fans that were there with the common purpose of seeing out a Province win.
With the focus on sustainable projects that have far-reaching impact on our communities, Saturday’s “typical rugby Saturday” saw the same players that were at the Sporting Chance Development Foundation Winter clinics join the Newlands faithful. To further show the awareness regards the need for effective community involvement, DHL Western Province and 567 Cape Talk gave away fantastic goodie bags with a school pack of a pencil case, a ruler, eraser, pen, pencil, and a sharpener inside.
To add to the day’s festivities, it was a famous victory for WP over Griquas in an entertaining try-fest of a game.
