The fight for fitness and against obesity has been stepped up a few, with Virgin Active South Africa’s presence at the 22nd annual Sporting Chance Calypso Cricket Festival as Virgin Active bring their personal trainers to Cape Town’s beaches for some Calypso fun with more than 3000 youngsters from Cape Town’s surrounding communities.
This may be seen as an extension of their festive season “year of sharing stuff” campaign, except that Sporting Chance is privileged to have been sharing stuff (make that staff) with them on Calypso for the past six years as they continue to descend on our beaches to promote healthy living. The Sporting Chance-Virgin Active relationship “moves” things a step further, making it more than just about fun at the beach, this message echoed by the words of national club-V manager, Robyn Moore, who says Virgin Active’s aim is to “encourage a relationship between the Virgin Active clubs and our communities.”
It’s a dual mission for Virgin Active as they look to build on their social awareness programmes. Moore goes on to say, “our involvement with Calypso gives us the platform to engage with our communities and enhance children’s lives through activeness as our staff take to the beach to teach children on the importance of health and fitness in a fun environment.”
