With an established female presence, KIA Street Soccer is bucking the trend that girls don’t like sport. As part of the Street Soccer requirements, each team is required to have at least two girls playing for them, with one set to be in the field of play at all times. It has been a breath of fresh air to see how this has been embraced- the girls adding a different dynamic to the action. No position is impossible for them to fill, as we see them play as strikers, defenders and even a few taking on the challenge of goalkeeper.
With the national women’s side’s victory over Zambia this past weekend, it may be that these youngsters want to emulate their sporting heroes.
