NEWCOMERS CELEBRATE CALYPSO CRICKET WITH MINISTER DAN PLATO

Children from Nyanga, Gugulethu, Mitchell’s Plain, Grassy Park, Steenberg and Lavender Hill were given the royal treatment when they took their turn at Calypso Cricket, receiving a visit from Western Cape Minister of Community Safety Dan Plato as they were going about the business of Calypso on Muizenberg’s Sunrise Beach.

Always one to support Sporting Chance projects the Department of Community Safety looks for ways to keep the communities’ children safe, especially in environments where this is not always possible.  Plato interacted with the children, showing that the thankless job of rebuilding our communities doesn’t only happen in the office.

It was a sweeter experience for children from Grassy Park, Steenberg and Lavender Hill as these communities were making their Calypso debuts.  We hope this will be an occasion they won’t soon forget!
