On Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 150 young and enthusiastic Ocean View cricketers had an exciting start to their week when they were chosen to participate in a cricket coaching clinic hosted by the Solstice Foundation, together with Sporting Chance, at Ocean View Secondary High School. The children were selected from participants in the annual Street Cricket league and the Calypso Cricket festival, which took place towards the end of last year.
The clinic was co-ordinated by WP under 15 cricket coach, Mark Khoabane, assisted by a team of experienced and energetic coaches and was a good opportunity to teach the kids cricket skills and to nurture raw talent. It was a great success and after some challenging fielding, batting, bowling and wicket keeping practise and games, the children received well deserved refreshments and a snack!
The clinic assured Sporting Chance that there is a lot of talent within the Ocean View community and we look forward to hosting follow up clinics to improve on the skills already learnt.
A special thanks to the Solstice Foundation for making these clinics possible and for assisting us to develop the young sportsmen in this disadvantaged community.
