It was all Pretoria on Wednesday as Atteridgeville’s Ten Morgan were crowned the Gauteng champions at the KIA Street Soccer provincial finals in Dobsonville Soweto. On a scorcher of an early Spring afternoon, the competition matched the weather conditions, and it was left to the sides from the north of Gauteng to out-last the opposition, ensuring a place in the National KIA Street Soccer final.
Ten Morgan, who faced fellow Atteridgeville street neighbours Highlanders in the semi-final, were continuing where Mamelodi left proceedings last year. In beating Brakpan’s Eleven Stars, they ensured that Pretoria were the provincial winners for a second year running.
However the day didn’t belong to Pretoria only, as many girls were spotted playing for their respective teams. In a competition that emphasises female participation, it was breath-taking to see so many young women out there. As Women’s Month draws to a close, this is truly inspiring!
