SOLTICE FOUNDATION AND SPORTING CHANCE JOIN FORCES.

It’s no secret that South Africa has an abundance of sporting talent, but in order for that talent to excel and to reach its potential it needs to be nurtured.  This takes us to the importance of what this week is all about…

In order for us to develop real stars of the future, we’ve got to identify them now and look after them. Sports development should be about looking after the youth, so much so that they excel in their future sporting endeavours.  Sport teaches important values & principles that can lead participants to being role models & respected individuals.

The Solstice foundation has supported SCDF for a number of years and this year they have once again joined forces with Sporting Chance to host the SCDF winter holiday coaching clinics.

The SCDF holiday coaching clinics kicked off in Langa on Monday and will move onto Khayelitsha later this week.  The clinics hosted over two days, provide skills and technique training in four sport codes, namely: rugby, hockey, soccer and netball.

A large number of children from these communities don’t have quality coaching of this nature on their doorsteps, and it’s always a joy to see them engage and partake in the coaching sessions wholeheartedly. Some participants even awaken a previously unknown passion and talent for a particular sport during the week and it’s encouraging to see them adopting this positive and healthy lifestyle.

The coaching team come from the communities, with Sporting Chance providing the structure, and with this the clinics foster employment and empowerment opportunities within the sports environment.

Sporting Chance wishes to run these coaching clinics more frequently so as to uncover and then nurture the discovered talent that’s always in abundance at these clinics. The SCDF coaching clinics simply translates as an investment towards the future of our country, and we are extremely grateful to the Solstice Foundation for continuing to make this possible…
