When all is said and done, there are still far too many South African children who are without opportunities. The final Grade 12 exams have just started, and we know all too well the familiar scenario around what options are available to the class of insert-year-here. Some have been afforded ample opportunities but do not use them, while plenty more do not have a shot in the dark unless they are given a chance.
We do not presume to have all the answers about how we get this right, but we believe where we, other organisations and the nation can do something…that is the direction we should be headed. It’s the on-going ’67 minutes’ effect.
Part of what we feel strongly about is equipping our youngsters for the future, physically as well as empowering them in other ways. This is why the Sporting Chance Development Foundation was founded, to focus on the physical aspects of sport (kit donation) as well as the non-physical aspects (mentoring) in communities that are most in need. As evidence of the awareness that we as a nation have, we have received numerous donations of equipment over the past few weeks, with donors clear on what they would like to happen to this equipment.
To this end we have visited five schools in the past two weeks donating kit and equipment, as we continue with the mission of providing the children of SA with a sporting chance. Few things are as amazing as seeing the appreciation in the faces of these young men and women.
Without the citizens of this country this would not be possible. Thank you.
