For over a decade Sporting Chance has supported Kenridge Primary School in hosting the annual Sporting Chance Kenridge u13 Day/Night Hockey Festival. This past Friday 29th August, over 300 young hockey players from the Helderberg and Northern Suburbs descended on the Stellenbosch Hockey Complex to compete for top honours.
Keeping up its reputation, the tournament was professionally run with the passionate team of Kenridge staff at the helm. With two Astros and grass fields all being played simultaneously there was action aplenty and the atmosphere was festive with hundreds of parents and siblings lining the sidelines to cheer on their respective teams.
The competition was tough and the standard of hockey exceptional. To see these youngsters developing astro turf skills at such a young age is encouraging and it certainly bodes well for the future of SA hockey.
The team spirit and sportsmanship shown from all participating teams was pleasing to see and both the girls and boys finals proved to be a fitting conclusion to the day. The teams and top performers were rewarded in a farewell prize giving, where Sporting Chance sponsors –Sportmans Warehouse, Hi-Tec and Flip File supplied awesome prizes for the winning teams.
