December 2013 was definitely an action-packed month at Sporting Chance, which made it all the more fitting for us to end the year with a bang! After a week-long and action-packed Calypso Cricket Festival and Holiday coaching clinic week, the Sporting Chance team shifted its focus to the Momentum 6’s cricket initiative, conceptualized by South African Test cricket captain, Graeme Smith.
The Momentum Cricket 6’s – an event that was aimed at re-invigorating Cape Town’s love of Cricket while making a difference, turned out to be a spectacle of note and a great way to kick off the holiday season.
We tip our hats to all the cricketing legends who were more than keen to participate in the initiative. Dale Steyn, Graeme Smith, Justin Kemp, AB De Villiers and Morne Morkel, were among the cricketing icons who made themselves available for the event.
The delight and eagerness displayed by the over 200 children from various townships located in and around the Mother City was a pleasure to witness and the mentoring process conducted by the cricket legends on the day was something that all those in attendance will relish for a long time.
All the proceeds generated at the Momentum 6’s cricket auction went towards the growth of the Sporting Chance Development Foundation, which plays a crucial role in identifying sporting talent and instilling the youth with a sense of achievement and responsibility.
Some of the young Sporting Chancers described the day as life changing and inspiring, and also mentioned that they were motivated to do whatever it takes to follow in the footsteps of their role models.
