Sporting Chance hosted a number of clinics over the past three weeks. More than eight hundred children stretching from Constantia to Macassar and Somerset West and from Somerset West to Durbanville participated in the multi-sport clinics, as we reached out to both our schools and Foundation children.
What did we learn from the youngsters? Children want to get out there and play sport, no matter the conditions. In sometimes unkind weather, children from a variety of areas and backgrounds showed up day after day. Children need positive affirmation. A word of encouragement works better than any reprimand. At the same time solid coaching and mentoring is necessary to bring out the best in them. The children bring as much enthusiasm and energy as they see and receive from us. Lastly, we learnt there is great potential in our country, but that, as with anything, it needs to be worked on.
It’s been a fantastic three weeks of holiday clinics, and as the schools and Foundation programmes begin, we look forward to taking things to the next level.
Many thanks to our sponsors, our coaches, and the team we work with for the continued support.
