The national women’s football team bowed out of the Olympics on Tuesday evening after two losses and a draw in their campaign. They did so with their heads held high after putting up a challenge against the world champions Japan for a fighting draw in their last group fixture. Only a few years ago London 2012 was a dream to the ladies, but they dared to dream and today they have much to take away from a maiden appearance at the Games.
We are proud of their achievement and as we start Women’s Month, we want to encourage the girls that participate in KIA Street Soccer to dream big. Football has predominantly been males-only territory, and sport has traditionally been associated with men; but inroads are being made. In the words of French author Marcel Proust “If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.” It may not be the Olympics that call, but there are opportunities everywhere! Dream a little!
